Transitioning to Filmmaking Day 0: It Ends It Begins
There are some changes coming to CreativeSpark.ai, triggered by some changes in my life. Today, August 31, 2023, was my very last day at my full time job at Uniform / Headless Creator. For those of you that don’t know, CreativeSpark.ai is my side “passion project”.
In January 2021, I created HeadlessCreator.com, also as a side “passion project” while working full time at a different company. The focus of the site was on headless content management systems and how enterprises can migrate to them. In March of 2022, Uniform acquired it and I stayed on with them as Head of Content and Community for Headless Creator until, yesterday, August 31, 2023.
The reason for the change I made yesterday has been brewing inside of me for over 40 years. I’m going after a dream I’ve had since arriving in the US in 1976, growing up in the 80s watching amazing movies, especially those of Steven Spielberg. I will be pursuing a career in filmmaking, specifically, in post production, first as a post production supervisor and later, as an editor working in scripted TV and/or Feature Films. I’ve even started attending the UCLA Extension Filmmaking program with a focus on Post Production and Editing back in June.
If you want to follow my transition into filmmaking, watch for daily (weekdays only) postings of what I did that day to get me to where I'm trying to go. I also created this public Trello Board for you to see what I’m doing exactly to get there. I’m also, as many of you know, a huge proponent and fan of Artificial Intelligence and its use for creative purposes, specifically, filmmaking, that’s where CreativeSpark.ai comes in. I will continue to create podcasts and tutorials, but with some changes:
Filmmakers on the Cutting Edge Podcast is now called Transitioning to Filmmaking, which opens it up for me to interview a wider variety of filmmakers. I’ll still be covering emerging technology, so don’t worry about that, but I will be covering many other topics as well.
Exploring Cutting Edge Filmmaking tutorial series will continue as is, but with a stronger focus on showing you what I’m learning.
The Tech Behind the Scenes, I’m putting it on hold for now.
So there you have it. You’ll either see my name in the credits of some upcoming feature film or TV movie on Netflix, or, you will see me just outside your freeway entrance with a sign “Please help, I made a really dumb decision trying to become a filmmaker.” One of those is guaranteed to happen!
